Maggia crime boss Count Nefaria lost his wife during childbirth, and decided to put his new daughter into adoption so that she might avoid his life of crime. Raised by a wealthy family, Whitney Frost was indeed raised in a happy, crime-free environment until her adopted parents died. Alone and directionless, Frost was approached by Nefaria who revealed himself as her true father and offered to take her into his organisation and train her as his successor. Frost proved to be a natural, a gifted strategist and exceptional marksman. While escaping after a botched raid on Stark Industries, Whitney was caught in a plane crash and her face scarred. Donning a golden mask to hide her disfigurement, Whitney took on the identity of Madamae Masque. She would continue to lead a series of attacks on Stark Industries and became well-acquainted with Tony Stark, so well-acquainted that they would start a romantic relationship and she would briefly leave behind her life of crime. The relationship wasn't to last however, and she soon left Tony over her insecurities about her face and former crimes.

She would later resurface as a major criminal figure, having taken on a position in the Hood's supervillain organisation. The two would eventually start a relationship and she would reconcile with her father in an effort to regain their power.
