Due to his father being exposed to radiation during a lab accident before he was conceived, Jerome Beechman was born a mutant. A dark-skinned and hairy baby, Jerome developed more monkey-like features as he grew older. Afraid and disgusted of their mutant child, his parents abandoned him in the New Mexico desert where he had to fend for himself. While travelling he befriended another mutant outcast, Nekra, and the two became inseperable. Surviving through scavenging and stealing, the two eventually found themselves at the mercy of an angry lynch mob. It was that night that their mutant powers manifested in time to save their lives, and Jerome discovered he could control women through his mutant pheremones. Soon after he and Nekra parted ways, and Jerome, now calling himself the Mandrill, began using his powers to cultivate a career in crime. Manipulating women to do his bidding, Mandrill's plans have always been thwarted by heroes such as Daredevil and the Black Widow.
