A shapeshifitng mutant, Raven Darkholme's powers make her appearance as fluid as her loyalty. Decietful and manipulative, Mystique has worked for many powerful figures, including both Charles Xavier and Magneto, only to betray or abandon them whenever it benefitted herself most. Mystique has strong personal ties to the X-Men, her natural son Nightcrawler and adopted daughter Rogue being two of the more prominent members of the group.
